Give us today our daily bread.—Matthew 6:11 NIV

The Bible doesn’t say, “Give us today our weekly bread” or “Give us today our yearly bread.” God wants you to trust him one day at a time.

You don’t need to be concerned about tomorrow until tomorrow. Planning ahead is good. Worrying ahead only distracts us from the steps God has for us to take today.

You don’t need to stress about all the future steps necessary to make you Daniel Strong. You can focus on what you need to do today.

You can pray to be filled with the Holy Spirit to do what needs to be done today, and then pray again tomorrow for what you need tomorrow.

You can also be thankful for what God provides for you today, saying, “Thank you for today’s food, today’s empowering, today’s new thought pattern.”

Jesus says, “Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes” (Matthew 6:34 MSG).

Isn’t that a relief!

Food for Thought: Trusting God one day at a time frees you from worry and brings a harvest of peace.
