We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. —2 Corinthians 10:5
Dr. Daniel Amen says, “Thoughts exert a powerful influence over your life and body. Uninvestigated thoughts provide the emotional fuel for anger, anxiety, depression and unhealthy behaviors.” He wants us to investigate our thoughts, to ask ourselves whether they are true to the real world and line up with what Scripture teaches.
We can ask God to show us what is true and to reframe our thinking. For instance, we may need to reframe our thinking so that we believe it is possible for us to move forward in faith, food, fitness, focus, and friends. We may need to reframe our thinking in order to believe that God will give us the power to grow. We can believe King David when he says, “It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure” (Psalm 18:32 NIV) and “The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace (Psalm 29:11 NIV). As we are renewed and refreshed in our thinking, we will increasingly live lives that fully honor God.
Food for Thought: How powerful it can be if we take the time to investigate our thoughts, bringing all of ourselves before God.
