For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. —2 Timothy 1:7
God promises to give you the power to remain faithful to the commitments you make. God doesn’t give you a spirit of fear or shyness. Feeling overwhelmed by what it will take to get healthy is not from him. He’s not giving you insecurity or worry or anxiety. He gives you the power, love and self-discipline.
Did you know that true self-discipline comes from God? Self-control actually comes from giving control to God. The more you surrender to him, give up control of your life, the more self-control you have. When you’re mastered by the Master, you are mastered by nothing else. But if he’s not your Master in practical daily ways, anything can master your life.
Where in your life are you struggling with self-discipline? Instead of doubling down on yourself, yield that area to God. Make it a daily offering to him.
Food for Thought: Self-control comes from giving control to God. That’s true freedom from fear, cravings, and anything else that burdens you.
