Judy heard about The Daniel Plan back in 2010, when Pastor Rick Warren first introduced the concept at one of his worship services at Saddleback Church. She had been suffering from back problems caused by past automobile accidents. Her story reveals the transformation that can occur in one’s life when you rely on God’s power to make healthy lifestyle changes.
Back in 2010, I was suffering from severe back pain. It was difficult for me to get out of bed in the morning, tie my shoes, and pick something up from the floor. The pain medication prescribed by my doctor made me dizzy and sick to my stomach. I could find no relief from my pain. I was miserable and discouraged. Then one day at a Saddleback worship service, Pastor Rick announced the upcoming launch of The Daniel Plan. I was so excited and hopeful that this could be the answer to my prayers!
The Daniel Plan rekindled my passion for health, fitness, and nutrition. I had graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in nutrition and dietetics. I had also taught dance in the Philippines. However, I had not been applying my knowledge and skills to my life. When The Daniel Plan started, I enthusiastically attended the weekend services. Pastor Rick’s messages were so encouraging and I grew spiritually. I absorbed as much information from Dr. Daniel Amen and Dr. Mark Hyman as I could. I learned new ideas and printed delicious, healthy recipes from The Daniel Plan website. The 5 essentials—Faith, Food, Fitness, Focus and Friends were key to my transformation. They changed my life!
A New Lifestyle Embraced
I now eat and cook healthy food. I go to the gym regularly and enjoy taking a variety of classes, including Pilates, Zumba, strength training, and yoga. My husband, my small group, and my co-workers support me in my efforts to live a healthy lifestyle. Living The Daniel Plan in community definitely makes it easier. My faith in God has been the most important factor in changing my lifestyle. One of my favorite Bible verses is Matthew 6:33 (NIV).
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness,
and all these things will be given to you as well.”
I have seen this promise fulfilled in my life. When I put God first and draw near to Him, He draws near to me and gives me the desires of my heart. He helps me to choose healthy foods. He gives me the energy and determination I need to make it to my fitness classes. He helps me to focus on my health and fitness goals while surrounding me with family and friends with whom I can share my life.
The Change is Real
God has used The Daniel Plan to transform my life in so many ways:
- I no longer suffer from back pain. I am physically active and love taking fitness classes.
- I have lost 10 pounds since I began The Daniel Plan and have kept it off for 3 years.
- I sleep better and have so much more energy.
- Despite my demanding 50-60 hour per week work schedule, I have the energy I need to take care of my family, volunteer at church, participate in a small group, and work out 3-6 times per week.
- I am able to handle the stress from my demanding life better and in a healthy way.
- I have had many opportunities to share The Daniel Plan and my faith with others.
My journey on The Daniel Plan has been amazing. Today I am healthy, happy, and pain-free. I have more energy and am able to function more effectively at home, in my ministry, and at work. God has blessed me greatly!
Judy works full time and takes care of her husband, 2 children, and her mother who lives with her. It is her hope and her prayer that she may lead others toward a healthier lifestyle.
